8th-Grader Takes Action
After hearing about the horrific conditions in Sderot, Ayelet G., an eighth-grader from New York sprang to action. She filled a large box with letters, cards, games, and toys, and enclosed a note in Hebrew telling the kids in Sderot that she cares, prays for them, and wants them to be strong. When Ayelet’s care package reached a group of girls in Sderot, they were excited and thrilled that someone so far away cared about their situation, and they posed for a picture to send to her in thanks. For Ayelet, the care package was a simple but powerful way to connect with Jewish kids living in difficult circumstances. “I think that people in Sderot feel like we forget about them,” Ayelet explains. “I wanted them to realize that they’re not alone.”
