Hebrew Calligraphy

Learn to write like a Sofer using our handy tutorials! Before long, you’ll be drawing like a pro.

Calligraphy Tips:

  1. Paper – Try using bright white laser printer paper for practicing. It’s inexpensive and it shows fine lines well.
  2. Pen – Try using a calligraphy felt marker with a broad (wide) tip.
  3. Holding the pen – The pen should be held at a 90-degree angle so that the broad edge of the pen is perpendicular to the paper and the line where the lettering will go.
  4. Practice – Print out a copy of the alef-bet provided here. Place the pen so that it exactly matches the position at the start of each stroke and trace over the lettering. Practice, practice, practice!
