City of Tel Aviv

Dizengoff Square in downtown Tel Aviv is named for Zena Dizengoff, the wife of Meir Dizengoff, Tel Aviv’s first mayor. The square is on Dizengoff Street, one of the most famous streets in Tel Aviv. In fact, strolling up and down Dizengoff Street is so popular that there is a Hebrew verb for doing just that: l’hizdangef.
On a raised walkway above Dizengoff Street in Tel Aviv sits the Fire and Water fountain by artist Yaacov Agam. The fountain, painted in a bright rainbow design, streams water, shoots fire and plays music as it rotates. Benches are located around the area so that passersby can sit and watch the fountain’s “show” when it plays every hour.
The large building with the round tower in the panorama (visible in the background to the left of the bird that is flying through the scene) is Dizengoff Center. The first four floors of the building are a shopping mall and the tower contains offices and apartments.
