Borekas Recipe

This is a dish served on festive occasions, but also widely served on Israeli street corners. To be tasty, it must be served hot and fresh.

Ingredients:

  • Dough
    1. ½ pound margarine
    2. 1 teaspoon salt
    3. 3 cups self-rising flour
    4. warm water
  • Stuffing
    1. ½ cup cheese (feta)
    2. 1 cup cooked spinach
    3. 3 egg yolks
    4. Garnish
    5. 1 egg yolk
    6. 4 cups sesame seeds

Directions:

  • Dough
    1. Melt the margarine and mix with flour and salt.
    2. Add warm water until able to roll dough.
    3. Roll it and cut circles with a cup.
  • Stuffing
    1. Mix all the ingredients.
    2. Put one teaspoon of stuffing on each dough circle.
    3. Fold in half.
    4. On top, spread yolk and sprinkle sesame seeds.
    5. Place on a well-greased cookie tray and bake at 350 degrees until golden (approximately 15-20 minutes). Serve hot.
