What Kind of Judge Are You?

1. Ariel is a procrastinator. Even though the teacher gave the class plenty of time to work on their essays, Ariel hands in the essay a week late. When the teacher grades Ariel’s essay:

a. Ariel shouldn’t receive a penalty for lateness, because it is so difficult for Ariel to hand things in on time.

b. Ariel shouldn’t get credit for the essay, because there was plenty of time to complete it and it is quite late.

c. The teacher should reduce the grade by one letter.

2. You worked on a group history project. One member didn’t help much because of difficulties at home. When the teacher gives the group a grade, you:

a. Complain that one member brought your grade down.

b. Accept the grade knowing that everyone worked harder to make up for one member’s failure to do the work.

c. Propose that each member get graded separately.

3. You allow your 8-year-old brother to take a coin from your collection to school for “show and tell.” That night, you ask him for the coin, and he can’t find it. He says he is very sorry. You say:

a. “I’m upset that you lost it, but I know you didn’t do it on purpose. Be more careful next time.”

b. “I will order another coin just like it, and you will have to pay for it.”

c. “I won’t make you pay for the coin, but you can’t take any of my valuables to school again.”

4. The lunch line at school is very long because the cafeteria is serving pizza. The cafeteria runs out of pizza right after your turn and begins serving tuna sandwiches. Dani, standing behind you, is terribly disappointed and hates tuna. You:

a. Let Dani have your pizza and take the sandwich.

b. Split both the pizza and the sandwich with Dani.

c. Take the pizza because you were there first, and let Dani get whatever the cafeteria is now serving.

5. Your friends plan to play an important basketball game during recess. B.J. who is not a good player, wants to join this game. If B.J. plays, your team will probably lose. You:

a. Tell B.J. it is too late to join the team today.

b. Tell B.J. he can play if you can find another equally matched student for the other team.

c. Invite B.J. to play on your team even if you lose the game.

6. You share a room with Alex. Alex has a friend over and asks you to sleep in the guest room. You:

a. Agree even though the guest bed isn’t comfortable.

b. Suggest that Alex let the friend sleep on the guest bed. Alex can sleep on a cot in the guest room.

c. Stay in your own bed and suggest Alex set up a cot for the friend in the bedroom and you all sleep there.

7. You raised a lot of tzedakah money for Israel, and because of your efforts you were entitled to enter a raffle for a free trip to Israel. Amazingly, you win! You are too young to go alone, and your older sister wants to go very much. You:

a. Sell the ticket for a very low price to your sister.

b. Ask the committee to hold the ticket until you’re old enough to go alone.

c. Let your sister have your ticket, and be happy that you collected a lot of money for Israel.
